About the role
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role responsible for ensuring the continuous availability of electrical and mechanical infrastructure while leading complex maintenance activities, incident response, and operational improvements.
What You'll Do
Critical Infrastructure Operations
- Lead the operation and maintenance of mission-critical infrastructure supporting Firebird AI's AI data center.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize electrical, mechanical, and environmental systems to ensure maximum uptime.
- Lead response to critical infrastructure incidents and coordinate recovery efforts.
- Participate in a 24/7 shift rotation while acting as the senior technical escalation point during assigned shifts.
Electrical & Mechanical Infrastructure
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, ATS systems, PDUs, cooling systems, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, cooling towers, and liquid cooling infrastructure.
- Support commissioning, testing, and acceptance of new infrastructure.
- Monitor capacity, redundancy, and system performance while identifying opportunities for optimization.
Data Center Operations
- Lead daily inspections and operational health checks across technical spaces.
- Coordinate planned maintenance, vendor activities, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Review maintenance quality and ensure operational readiness before returning equipment to service.
- Maintain accurate documentation, operating procedures, and technical runbooks.
Incident Response & Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and improve preventive maintenance programs and operational procedures.
- Drive initiatives to improve infrastructure reliability, efficiency, and resilience.
- Support change management and ensure compliance with operational and safety standards.
Technical Leadership
- Mentor and support Critical Infrastructure Engineers, providing technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Assist in developing shift procedures, operational standards, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with Hardware, Networking, Security, Facilities, and Engineering teams to support reliable data center operations.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience operating critical infrastructure in data centers or other mission-critical environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution, cooling systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Experience working with BMS, DCIM, SCADA, or similar monitoring platforms.
- Proven experience leading incident response and troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues.
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a 24/7 shift environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience in hyperscale or AI data centers.
- Knowledge of liquid-cooled AI infrastructure and high-density power environments.
- Familiarity with Schneider Electric, Vertiv, ABB, Siemens, Eaton, or similar infrastructure platforms.
- Understanding of redundancy architectures (N+1, 2N) and data center operational best practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading small technical teams.
- Basic Linux, networking, or DCIM automation knowledge.
